The source materials converted to digital form for the Trails of Hope collection are mounted for display and study with the permission of any known rightsholders. The process of digitization and presentation by Brigham Young University and other contributing institutions has generated additional materials and content, including computer code/tags, the selection, coordination and arrangement (compilation) of the collection, original artwork, images, graphics, images, and text. Some of this content may be protected by U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.) and/or by the copyright or neighboring-rights laws of other nations. Additionally, the reproduction of some materials may be restricted by privacy and/or publicity rights. The responsibility for making an independent legal assessment and securing any necessary permission ultimately rests with persons desiring to reproduce or use the item or material.

We encourage use of these materials under the fair use clause of the 1976 Copyright Act.
